They vary in size from 1 8 th to 3 16 th of an inch in length. Eggs are pearly white in color and small. Most adult carpet beetles range from 2 mm to 5 mm in length with very short clubbed antennae and chewing mouthparts. The adults are small 1 16 to 1 8 inch oval shaped beetles ranging in color from black to various mottled patterns of white brown yellow and orange.

Some are black or dark enough to appear black when observed with the human eye. Slow moving tiny black beetles that crawl or fly around homes. Others might be mottled with spots of brown and black on a lighter background. The larvae are carrot shaped and long with a golden or brownish appearance.

Carpet beetles are covered in tiny hairs which are difficult to see unless you look at them under magnification. Carpet beetles in general are oval in shape and appear dark brown to black in colour. Adult carpet beetles feed on flower pollen and do not damage woolens and other fabrics.
